I’ve started knitting RPM socks along with Jaye. I’m using Koigu Painter’s Palette Premium Merino (KPPPM) — what a long name! — in a beautiful blue-purple colorway. I bought that yarn in 2006 when I was visiting Aubrey. :) The pattern is great and I’m knitting it merrily on the bus. Based on someone else’s Ravelry notes, I decreased the number of stitches by 1 once I got past the ribbing so that I could just k6, p3 all the way around. This way I can avoid the k7 at the beginning of the round that broke up the somewhat mindless knitting I prefer for public transportation.
When I first heard that there was going to be Harry Potter-themed yarn coming out, I got really excited… two of my favorite things! My LYS, Twisted, got some in and I was able to score a skein in the Dumbledore colorway. All of them are rather colorful (click the Twisted link for pictures), and I haven’t got a clue what pattern to knit with this… but I had to get it. :)
I do wonder why there aren’t any colorways named for characters who actually knit — Hermione, Mrs. Weasley, Hagrid, and Dobby come to mind. Leaving out Hermione was especially strange… there are colorways for Harry, Ron, and then Harry and Ron together, but not Hermione? Sniff. :( I’d also love to see a colorway for Snape… he’s one of my favorite characters!

Your RPMs look great! Mine aren’t quite as far along; the Magic Loop cast-on is kind of kicking my butt. I’m a little bit into the ribbing and I still don’t have faith that the ladders will disappear.
yeah, after figuring out the Magic Loop method and messing with it a bit, I realized that I don’t like it very much. moving the to-be-knit stitches onto the needle takes too long, and I don’t like moving them over the join between cable and needle; I’m a tight knitter, so maybe that’s the problem. when I was first learning DPNs, I hated them… now I actually like them. wow!
I can’t wait to see yours :) my ribbing always looks stupid until I have about an inch of the pattern knit past the ribbing.
That HP yarn is cool :) Makes me wish I knitted.
